The Garrett Awards

The Curator in a state of pained scrutiny.

Inspired by The Bobbys, The Garrett Awards recognize the best movies I saw in a calendar year, regardless of original release date.

The Garrett Awards use a ratings criteria to assess pleasure and longevity in every movie included in the Blockbusters and Birdwalks archive.

For example, John Waters’s Pink Flamingos was released in 1972, but I didn’t see Pink Flamingos until 2018. If I’d thought Pink Flamingos was one of the best movies I’d seen in 2018, I would have nominated it for The Garrett Awards of 2018, 46 years “late.”

"These are the words I said to you," sayeth the Curator, Garrett Chaffin-Quiray
